Robotic Technology for Total Knee Replacement
The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution is a high-precision surgical robot used by our surgeons at our Sequoia Orthopedic Center, Walnut Creek.
It helps our surgeons to simplify the knee replacement surgery by providing valuable insights, versatile execution, and verified performance which delivers efficiency and optimizes patient outcomes.

Who Would Benefit From VELYS Total Knee Replacement?
Patients with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis, who have symptoms such as knee pain, swelling and knee locking, and who have not responded to conservative treatments, are candidates for surgery with the VELYS Knee system.
The VELYS Knee system is available at Sequoia Orthopedic Center in Walnut Creek.
Other robots that are used by our surgeons are available at hospitals (which our doctors can operate at) near our Los Gatos, Capitola, and Walnut Creek Redwood offices.

Before Surgery
Most of your preoperative experience will be the same as for anyone undergoing total knee replacement, but a VELYS robotics surgery uses advanced technology to create a 3-dimensional model of your knee’s anatomy in the VELYS computer. Your surgeon will use this model to plan your knee replacement surgery.

During Surgery
The VELYS robot employs an infrared camera and optical trackers that your surgeon attaches to your knee so the computer knows exactly where the joint is positioned, adjusting if your leg moves even fractionally. Your implants will be aligned according to your unique anatomy and aligned with each other, so your artificial knee moves smoothly.

After Surgery
Your VELYS-assisted total knee replacement surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis at the Sequoia Surgical Pavilion in Walnut Creek, however your unique needs will determine your recovery plan and affect the duration of your recovery. Your surgeon will advise you on physical therapy and when it’s safe to return to driving and other activities.
