MRI

State-of-the-Art Orthopedic Imaging Services
At Golden State Orthopedics & Spine, we are dedicated to providing advanced MRI imaging services to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of orthopedic conditions. These scans are ordered by your doctor to evaluate specific injuries or concerns. With state-of-the-art technology and radiologists, our MRI Imaging Centers provide the high-quality images your doctor needs to create a personalized treatment plan.
Insurance Approval & Preauthorization
If your doctor orders an MRI, our authorization specialists will review your insurance to confirm whether it can be done at one of our centers. Some plans require outside facilities, in which case we’ll forward your order and assist with scheduling.
Many carriers also require preauthorization to confirm medical necessity. While approval times vary by provider, most patients are contacted within a few days to schedule. We’ll also verify your benefits and let you know any out-of-pocket costs in advance.
Scheduling & Preparation
When contacted to schedule, you will complete a screening questionnaire to ensure MRI safety. If you have implanted devices such as pacemakers, vascular stents, or artificial valves, please have your device card available. Please note that patients with pacemakers cannot undergo MRI. On the day of your scan, you may change into MRI-safe clothing. Most exams take 20 to 45 minutes, and patients with claustrophobia can request medication from their doctor in advance.
After Your MRI
Your scan images will be interpreted by a radiologist and sent to your doctor, who will review the results with you at a follow-up appointment. For privacy and accuracy, technologists cannot discuss scan findings at the time of your appointment. Copies of the radiology report or images can be provided upon request.

MRI Billing Information
If you're having an MRI, you may receive two separate bills for your study:
Who Sends the Bills?
Golden State Orthopedics & Spine
Covers the technical component: the cost of producing the images, including equipment, and technologist services.
Bay Imaging Consultants
Covers the professional component: the radiologist’s review and report of your MRI.
Why Two Bills?
MRI studies are split into two parts:
- Technical = Image creation
- Professional = Radiologist’s interpretation
Each part is billed by a different provider.
Insurance Reminder
