What Is Total Hip Replacement?
During a total hip replacement, the damaged parts of your hip joint are removed and replaced with artificial components that move smoothly together. A new ball and socket take the place of the worn joint, reducing pain and restoring mobility. Depending on your needs, your doctor may use different materials and techniques to ensure a secure and long-lasting fit.
These implants are designed to restore normal joint function, reduce stiffness, and eliminate chronic pain from conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, and traumatic injury. Depending on your anatomy and bone quality, your surgeon may use a “press-fit” technique that encourages bone growth around the implant or surgical cement to secure it in place.
