About Dr Porter

Dr. Porter is a sports medicine-trained orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in arthroscopic surgery and treating sports injuries. His training involved the latest minimally invasive arthroscopic surgical techniques to treat injuries of the shoulder, knee, elbow, or hip. He is trained as a surgeon, but believes in the value of non-surgical treatment for the appropriate injuries. He’s experienced in some of the latest techniques, including biologic treatments such as platelet rich plasma (PRP). He is dedicated to helping his patients return to their desired activities or lifestyle.

Dr. Porter also received special training in shoulder replacement surgery during his fellowship, including reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). Complex cases of shoulder arthritis due to fracture or irreparable rotator cuff tendon tears now have improved arthroplasty implant design solutions, including 3D computer planning software and custom implant guides. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has become an option for complex shoulder problems involving irreparable rotator cuff tears and arthritis. Similar to the increase in hip and knee arthroplasty, younger patients with shoulder arthritis are undergoing arthroplasty, and shoulder arthroplasty is becoming a more common surgery. Advances in surgical techniques and implant designs in shoulder replacement have greatly improved to better the outcomes for patients. He is committed to treating your shoulder injury or ailment to help you return to the activities you love.

Dr. Porter originally grew up in the Boston area playing sports and he still follows the local teams. His interest in orthopedics stemmed from his love of sports and the ability to help people get back to their favorite activities. He completed medical school and residency in Massachusetts. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship in San Diego, after which he relocated to Northern California with his family. He and his wife love the Bay Area and all that it has to offer. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, woodworking, hiking, traveling, and trying new foods and restaurants.

Dr Porter has been my orthopedic doc for 2.5 years. I just had a successful knee replacement. He has always been very responsive, if I send questions through the portal. If I take a list of questions to an appointment, he gives me as much time as I need to get them all answered. Working with him and the entire staff has been awesome.

I love everything about Golden State Orthopedic & Spine, everyone that works there is so very professional, helpful, courteous. What is the best thing about Golden State Orthopedic & Spine that would be my doctor Anthony Porter. He is very professional and he explains everything to you in detail so that you don’t have to ask a lot of questions and he explains it in layman‘s terms if needed. If anyone at all is in need of an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Anthony Porter is the best one I’ve come across I recommend Golden State Orthopedic spine and Dr. Anthony Porter can’t go wrong with either one.

Every since I was referred to Dr. Porter he's been nothing short of wonderful. My surgery went great and his post op guidance has been invaluable towards my healing process. He's professional, personable and highly skilled as a surgeon, and definitely an asset to Golden gate orthopedic. I highly recommend him and thank him for helping me through my rotator cuff repair journey.

I had a left knee patella opening reduction surgery last year after a hit and run accident. Dr.Porter was very patient with my broken English and panicked mentality because I had never experienced any accident nor a surgery. He genuinely cares about patients, and his knowledge and expertise are impeccable. I was very unlucky to have the accident but I was at least lucky enough to have Dr.Porter as my surgeon.

Dr Porter was very pleasant. This was my first visit (initial visit w/Dr that left John Muir). He looked at xrays but didn't examine my knee at all before stating that surgery could wait as long as I wasn't in pain. Probably will not return to this Dr

Over the years I've had my share of having to see an orthopedic doctor due to work injuries, but I have to honestly say that Dr. Porter has and continue to be the best I've seen. His office staff, nurses assistants and even the receptionists are the best I've ever come across. If for any reason I have to see another Ortho doctor, it will definitely be DR. PORTER!!! I thank you and your staff for taking such great care of me!!! I would definitely recommend Dr. Porter to everyone I know who may need an Orthopedic doctor. Without question!!

Two years ago, I experienced a bike accident that resulted in a broken hip. Fortunately, Dr. Porter skillfully performed the necessary surgery and has been providing attentive care throughout my two-year recovery journey. Thanks to his exceptional medical skills, patience, and professionalism, I am now fully recovered. I am immensely grateful to Dr. Porter for his outstanding care and expertise.

Having been treated by Dr Porter for close to.a year for knee, pelvic joint and elbow injuries from incidents while trail running, and resultant pain, I observe these from my knowledge and experience : He listens to the conditions the patient describes and works with his patients. He routinely reads iMRI, X ray and CT scan images as well or better than a radiologist and interprets and explains them on the screen to the patient. A distinguished orthopedic surgeon, he can also offer noninvasive therapies. All in all, highly recommended

Dr. Porter was easy to talk to and he took the necessary time to learn of my injury. I had an upper muscle/tendon strain in my upper leg from playing basketball. . Xrays were taken and he explained the extent of my injury, rehab needed (8 weeks) and time to recover. I am fully healed. He was correct on all accounts. I would see him again in the event of similar injury (hopefully not!).

I would like to thank Dr. Porter for getting me the correct diagnosis and proper recovery. I had seen two other doctors previously at different hospitals that thought I had torn some muscles and said I was fine to go back to work. The day I returned to work (approx 10 days later) I knew something was not right and went to his office later that day. Sure enough I had a torn Meniscus after an MRI which he suspected. He recommended PT or surgery. I choose to try PT and it took a few months but I was able to heal my tear. Thanks again for helping me get better.

Dr Porter was fantastic. Very professional but also extremely caring and took the time both before and after my surgery in each appointment to make sure and find out how I was feeling and healing. I was very nervous about surgery and the healing process and had a million questions but he took the time for each one. I would highly recommend him. He’s got a busy schedule but worth the wait.

I am much better since I came to see Dr Porter for my injuries in April 2022.. He listens to and understands his patient, the details of the symptoms and bases his plan of therapy on that and the range of tests. He is also, naturally, highly experienced not only at interpreting MRIs and X rays but also explaining them to the patient. He provides treatment options ranging in a typical case from physiotherapy and drugs to surgery,, which he adjusts according to the patient's preferences.
