What Is Hip Arthroscopy?
Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to treat a variety of hip disorders caused by injury, wear and tear, or structural abnormalities. During the procedure, a small camera (arthroscope) is inserted into the hip joint, allowing your surgeon to view and repair damaged cartilage, labral tears, loose bodies, or bone irregularities that contribute to impingement and pain.
This procedure is often performed on an outpatient basis and is designed to relieve discomfort, improve mobility, and preserve the natural joint whenever possible.

Is Hip Arthroscopy Right for You?
Hip arthroscopy may be recommended for patients experiencing hip pain that has not improved with nonsurgical treatments, such as physical therapy, medication, or injections. It is commonly used to treat hip conditions, including:
- Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
- Labral tears
- Loose hip joints
- Hip dysplasia (mild cases)
- Cartilage damage or inflammation
Your doctor will assess the underlying cause of your hip pain and discuss all available treatment options, including whether arthroscopy may offer the most effective path to restoring comfort, strength, and mobility.
