ROSA ROBOTIC KNEE SURGERY

ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY FOR TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

INTRODUCING….ROSA

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM ROSA TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT?

Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is a degenerative condition that results in the loss of joint cartilage (the cushioning between the bones).

Total knee replacement (TKR) is performed to remove the damaged bone tissues and replace them with artificial components (also called implants or prostheses) in order to relieve pain and restore normal function.

Patients with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis, who have symptoms such as knee pain, swelling and knee locking, and who have not responded to conservative treatments, are candidates for surgery with the ROSA Knee system.

ROSA Knee system is available at Sequoia Orthopedic Center in Walnut Creek as well as at a Hospital our physicians operate at near our Los Gatos office.
Other Robots that are used by our surgeons are available at Hospitals (which our physicians can operate at) near Capitola and Walnut Creek Redwood offices.

BEFORE SURGERY
Most of your preoperative experience will be the same as for anyone undergoing total knee replacement, but a ROSA robotics surgery will also require a series of x-rays that will be used to create a 3-dimensional model of your knee’s anatomy in the ROSA computer. Your surgeon will use this model to plan your knee replacement surgery.
DURING SURGERY
The ROSA robot employs a camera and optical trackers that your surgeon attaches to your knee so the computer knows exactly where the joint is positioned, adjusting if your leg moves even fractionally. The skill of your specially trained surgeon, and the precision of robotic assistance ensures that your surgery goes according to plan, and your implants will be aligned according to your unique anatomy and aligned with each other, so your artificial knee moves smoothly.
AFTER SURGERY
You may be allowed to return home the same day you have your surgery depending on your surgeon’s evaluation. Your unique needs will help determine your recovery plan and affect the duration of your recovery. Your surgeon will advise you on physical therapy and when it’s safe to return to driving and other activities.
