Question:
What is a slipped disc?

Answer:
Commonly called a slipped disc, a disc herniation is an injury to the cushion structure in between the vertebrae of the spine. When a disc is herniated, the outer ring tears and the jelly-like substance from the center bulges through the tear putting pressure on the surrounding nerves. This can happen in various degrees of severity which are characterized by pain and inflammation. Herniations can happen over time as discs become weaker or lose fluid, or being injured during a traumatic episode.
