How Leslie Got Her Agility Back

Leslie Garrow shows her Australian Shepherd, Spree, in agility competitions, which means she runs alongside her dog, guiding her dog’s progress through an obstacle course of tunnels, weave poles, tire jumps, seesaws, and pause tables.  While Leslie never stopped showing her dog, she was forced to significantly modify her participation, struggling to move about the course due to her extreme hip pain.

Leslie is no stranger to joint pain and surgery, having been through a few of them, but she felt well-prepared by Dr Bradley Crow and his team, and was very motivated to regain her own agility.

Post-surgery she had physical therapy twice a week, as recommended.  “As I felt better, I began doing more and more, asking my PT team when I could go to the gym on my own.”

Leslie was back on the agility course with her dog 9 weeks after her hip replacement surgery.  “It was a casual event, and I could have walked the whole thing.  I didn’t even have to finish, but I did,” she says.  “It was the first run of the morning, and I was worried about the footing because the grass was really wet with dew.  I was being cautious, and using other handling techniques, but then I realized I was fine and not in pain.  I would recommend Dr Crow and Golden State Orthopedics & Spine to my family and friends.  In fact, I already have!”
